HobbyMods vs OMW

BloodKrunk is at it again! Feast your eyes on another awesome comparison from our old pal. Similar to his Retaliator kit comparison, he takes a look at various brands and their pros and cons. Enjoy!

Simple spring replacements are the gateway into the nerf modding world. The most popular right now being HobbyMods.net and Orange Mod Works (OMW). But which one is better? Well folks, we are about to find out. I’ve purchased three kits each from both HobbyMods.net and OMW for the Elite Alpha Trooper, Retaliator, and Longshot.

The spring kits from HobbyMods.net started out as OzNerfNerd. These kits come from Australia and are known for their powerful springs and great 3d printed (ABS – I believe) supplement parts to help performance. OMW is out of the United States and is known for their very reasonably priced upgrade springs. OMW does offer full kits with polycarbonate parts.
I used the F-1 Chrony to gather the muzzle velocity data. The darts used were all Nerf™ brand elite darts, brand new right out of the package. The lighting condition is as you see it in the picture.

Results:

Elite Alpha Trooper – The EATs are as pictured below. Both have sticker marking them with the kit they have inside. The top one has the HobbyMods.net - Elite Alpha Trooper Spring Mod Kit and the bottom one has the OMW - Unleashed Solid Stage 1 Kit for Nerf Elite Alpha Trooper installed.

Retaliator – Same thing the HobbyMods.net - Retaliator Spring Mod Kit is on the top and the OMW - Unleashed Solid Stage 1 Kit for Nerf Retaliator is on the bottom. The OMW has a metal trigger installed as well, but I don’t see that affecting muzzle velocity. Also, if the velocities seem low to you; keep in mind that the Retaliators have the barrel extensions on.

Longshot – The OMW Longshot is the top one this time. I purchased the OMW kit a long time ago. It is actually the OMW Longshot Immortal Kit and it is no longer sold. The Longshot is also and older version of the Longshot with an XplorerSG pump action grip. The HobbyMods.net - Longshot Deluxe Mod Kit is on the bottom installed on the Zombiestrike Longshot. It features a Kouri Kustoms pump action grip with an F10555 3d printed AFG epoxied onto it.

Conclusion – All in all, the HobbyMods.net kits perform better overall. So if you live in Australia, I would order the HobbyMods.net kit. If you are thinking about upgrading your Retaliator or EAT, and you live in the United States, then I would just settle for the slight decrease in performance and save the money on overseas shipping. However, if you are planning on modding a Longshot; the HobbyMods.net kit is clearly the better choice.

Happy Tagging and BFU loves Iron Man.
